New Skincare Regimen - Highlight of Quarantine
Honestly, emotions have been all over the place. So with everything going on and me definitely not wearing makeup, I realized it was long overdue for a new and improved *actual* skincare regimen.
* EDIT: yesterday (8-25-2020) 8,099 of us were furloughed. Although very unfortunate, I know this is not the end but rather the beginning to a new reroute. My goal is to take actions that will put myself & IAL365 in better positions.
That first "me" task: figuring out a skin regimen. This means investing in products and using such products for however long it takes for me to find a routine that works for me.
Task #2: revamping It's A Lifestyle 365 & relaunching with more defined intentions & hella *spirit finger* energy lol.
I'm a bit embarrassed to share that I've never really had a good skincare routine. I thought I did... I washed my face as if I was really doing something with product I only wished would be my holy grail... even knew better and knew I should invest time into finding a good one, considering the way high altitude mercilessly sucks the moisture out of our supple, frequent-traveler skin... but I hadn't.
With that being said, beginning my journey to finding a G R E A T skincare routine Is one of the highlights of my quarantine days.
I feel like my regimen has always been all over the place, inconsistent and honestly more damaging than helpful. This is because at one point I was relying on harsh products like concentrated tea tree oil *insert horrified emoji here* and African black soap, to name a couple. I just wanted clear, blemish-free, even-toned skin now and now. And all within like 2 achievable steps LOL. I felt like everything had to be on-the-go, like me. So I didn't want to complicate my world with a 10 step skincare regimen.
However, that was simply the wrong (not to mention naive and lazy way) to look at skincare. I was not achieving desirable results using the same tired, quick "cleanse" and ridiculously non-moisturizing moisturizer. It was past time for a change.
So let's get into it...
I have sensitive and dry (or combo? still figuring this one out) skin so products like African black soap were too strong and drying for my face.
But alas, ya girl has made it to the skincare regimen-building team and it's only up from here!
I have such high expectations for this regimen, it's not even funny LOL.
I wish I had bought everything back in May or June when I truly was not setting foot on the aircraft, but hey better late than never, right?
For those of you who are curious and/or would like to start this journey with me, I learned that a nice skincare regimen looks something like this:
AM - hydrating cleanser, hydrating toner, moisturizer, SPF
PM - oil cleanser, hydrating cleanser, hydrating toner, moisturizer, oil
*Also, 1-3x a week, depending on the product and the sensitivity of your skin, exfoliation of some sort should take place.
Now I'd also like to point out that once your skin gets used to whatever the above basic regimen products are, then will be your opportunity to introduce serums and/or creams for targeting any problem areas, like hyperpigmentation or dark circles.
Here are the products I ordered from Sephora:
AM - boscia Clear Complexion Cleanser (read it's nice for sensitive skin too!), LANEIGE Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer (which I may use alone during hot months as both my toner & moisturizer until fall/winter), The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA, Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF-40.
PM - boscia MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil, boscia Clear Complexion Cleanser (yes, that's two cleansers), LANEIGE Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer, The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA (thinking of possibly substituting moisturizer with CeraVe PM moisturizer...), The Ordinary "B" Oil. *photo missing oil double cleanser product -- to be updated soon once product arrives
* Exfoliant (to be used 1x/wk for 8 mins) - The Ordinary Peeling Solution
I will return after 14 & 30 days to share my results.
Y'all I'm just so excited... listen, I have already visualized my new moisturized & clear skin. You want to figure out a regimen for yourself? Comment below and I'll help you research for your specific skin.
Also, let's chat... what will you do with the downtime, whether you're furloughed, on a voluntary leave or just taking covid one day at a time in quarantine. What's your plan?
